Virtual Event September 14th-19th
Because of the rare plant and wide-ranging animal species that depend upon it, the Teton River Basin has been ranked the number one private lands conservation priority area within the entire Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem for its combination of irreplaceable ecological value and vulnerability.
Steeped in agricultural tradition, farming and ranching remains significant in Teton Basin, benefitting both people and wildlife.
The South Fork Snake River corridor from Swan Valley to Menan Buttes is one of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem’s most outstanding fish and wildlife resources, including the cottonwood gallery forest along this reach of the river, named the number one wildlife resource in Idaho.
Because of the combination of rare plant and animal populations in the area, the Henry’s Fork River is ranked as the number two conservation priority within the entire Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem for its irreplaceable ecological value.
The Island Park Caldera, the Henry’s Lake Flat, Shotgun Valley, and the south slope of the Centennial Range make up a large and diverse landscape, where there are is great value for migratory and wintering elk and sage grouse, raptor migration corridors, and expansive habitats of value to many species.
🚣🏼♂️Tinny got to tag along for a rowing lesson with TRLT staff, board member Ned Corkran, and long-time Land Trust supporter John McIntosh.
Our Director of Engagement, Kami Archibald taught Tinny about the conservation easements along the Teton River, and he was excited to find out that 29 miles of the river are permanently protected! Along the way, he spotted two moose, weathered a quick hailstorm, and did his part by helping bail rainwater out of the boat—turns out he’s a pretty handy tin can to have around. 😊

Thank you to everyone who joined us and Friends of the Teton River for an incredible Fisheries Program Tour! We’re so grateful to Friends of the Teton River for their leadership on this important work—and to our community for showing up with curiosity, questions, and care for our native fish.
🐟 The word "redd" comes from a Scottish term meaning "to clear or tidy up." In the context of fish, it refers to the nest that trout or salmon clear in the gravel to lay their eggs.
🐟 Six Springs an ideal spawning habitat because the spring water remains clean, cold, and consistent year-round; gravel beds are just right for trout to build redds; and there is less predation pressure means higher survival rates for eggs.
🐟 This is one of the last strongholds for Yellowstone cutthroat trout fishing. A decline in their numbers could trigger ESA protections—meaning no more fishing for this iconic species.
Together, we can help protect the health of our waters and the native fish that call them home.

Tinny joined Niah Pennington, TRLT’s Stewardship Associate and resident bird expert, for an early morning secretive marsh bird survey with current board member Bruce Mincher and former board member Tim Reynolds on one of the Land Trust’s fee-owned properties.
Getting up before sunrise isn’t Tinny’s strong suit, so he opted for a lift on Niah’s backpack. Let’s be honest—his clanking might’ve cleared the area before the survey even started anyway.
Tinny had the opportunity to see the elusive Wilson’s Snipe, known for its “winnowing” call—made by vibrating its tail feathers to court a mate.

🌿🔍 Tinny had his very first site visit with our amazing stewardship team!
He tagged along to help identify birds, spot wildflowers, and check in on the health of the land. Site visits are an important part of Land Trust work—they help ensure conservation values are being upheld and give us a chance to support the landowners who help protect these special places.
Tinny took "leave no trace" a little far and refused to leave a single footprint…so he just rolled everywhere.

💧Tinny`s First Day out in the field!
Tinny spent his first day of his Tinternship hard at work with our stewardship team at Six Springs Ranch helping set up irrigation! 🐄
As part of a fee-for-service agreement, we’re assisting with irrigation using an old water right that must be exercised. For three days in late spring and early summer, we pump water from the creek to the pasture.
Tinny got very excited when he thought he spotted some moose. Turns out it was just a bunch of cows. Still pretty majestic, Tinny.🐮💚

🌿 Free the Willows!
This marks the final installment of TRLT`s "Free the Willows" effort! TRLT staff removed the last four exclosures at Six Springs Ranch, where willows were planted along a spring creek to restore vital riparian habitat.
These willows help stabilize streambanks, provide shade for Yellowstone cutthroat trout spawning grounds, and, once mature, will offer valuable browse for wildlife like moose. The exclosures protected young willows from heavy browsing, especially by livestock. But now that the pasture is no longer grazed, it was time to let the willows thrive on their own. 🌱
This is a win for fish, wildlife, and the health of this creek.

🏃♂️🌄 Get ready for Wrun for Wray—a 2.9-mile hill climb at Grand Targhee Resort honoring the life and legacy of Wray Landon IV.
Whether you`re running, walking, racing, or just there for the celebration, all are welcome to join the fun. All proceeds support the Wray Landon Legacy Fund at Teton Regional Land Trust, continuing Wray’s passionate conservation work.
Wray was a gifted naturalist and biologist who dedicated his life to protecting the wild places of the Upper Snake River Watershed. We lost him far too soon in 2010, but his impact lives on through this event and the land he loved.
